Horace William Mills

Horace William Mills, 89 of Salisbury, NC formerly of Granite Quarry, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008 at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Horace was born November 7, 1918 in Stanly County, the son of the late William Lee Mills and Madge Lisk Mills. Horace was a Veteran of World War II serving in the US Navy. Horace was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church; he had served on the church council, was a former President of the Lutheran Men, had taught Sunday school and was a carpenter and farmer.

In addition to his parents, Horace is also preceded in death by his wife, Willie Mae Lyerly Mills, whom passed away on July 20, 2005.

Survivors; son: Alan Mills and wife Marlene of Rockwell, daughter; Dianne M. Artz and husband Buddy of Faith, brother; Robert L. Mills of Salisbury, sisters; Rachel Swanson of Fayetteville and Myrtle Kiker of Midland. Seven grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Visitation: 6:30 to 8:30 PM Wednesday at Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell.

Funeral Services: 3:00 PM Thursday at St. Peters Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Terrell Long, pastor of Organ Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by the North Carolina Army National Guard.
