GOLD HILL - Reggie Earl Rattz, 65, of Gold Hill, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at his residence.

Reggie was born Feb. 10, 1948, in New Hanover County, a son of the late Milford Columbus and Lena Henderson Rattz. Educated in the Rowan County School System, Reggie also attended Rowan-Cabarrus Community College and Guilford and Davidson Community College where he earned an Associate Degree in Police Science.

He retired from the Spencer Police Department due to disability, and had also worked for Culp Bros. Construction Company.

Reggie enjoyed fishing, music, playing the guitar and traveling with his wife. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. When his children were younger, he coached their football, baseball and basketball teams. Reggie was a member of West Park Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Reggie is preceded in death by sons Reggie Earl Rattz, Jr. and Keith Allen Rattz, and a grandson, Zack Jay Thompson.

Reggie is survived by his wife, Sue Honeycutt Rattz; sons Gaylor Henderson Rattz of Gold Hill and Michael Shawn Rattz of Salisbury; daughters Beth Ann Rattz Shipton of Gold Hill and Carol Suzette Rattz Thompson of Beulaville; brother Gerald Rattz of Sumter, S.C. Reggie is also survived by 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Service: The Funeral is Saturday, April 13 at 3 p.m. at the Powles Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Charles Carver, pastor of West Park Baptist Church.

Visitation: The family is receiving friends Saturday, April 13 at Powles Funeral Home from 2 to 3 p.m.

Powles Funeral Home of Rockwell is assisting the Rattz family.
