SALISBURY - LeRoy Junior Lyerly, 85, of Salisbury, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at Genesis ElderCare of Salisbury.

Born May 29, 1924 in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Roy Lee Lyerly and Minnie Morgan Lyerly. Mr. Lyerly was educated in the Rockwell schools, and was veteran of the United States Navy Seabees in the Pacific Theatre, during World War II. An employee of Cannon Mills, he was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Ruth Walton Lyerly, who died October 2, 2004; a brother Cecil Lyerly; and a sister Athalene Call.

Survivors include his sons, Melvin Lyerly of Salisbury and Tommy Lyerly (Starla) of Rockwell; sisters, Garnell Trexler of Lexington and Shirley Waggoner of Minnesota; grandchildren, Craig Lyerly and Courtney Lyerly.

Service: Graveside service: 11 a.m. Thursday at Rowan Memorial Park, with the Rev. Mike Motley officiating.

Memorials: Trading Ford Baptist Church, 3600 Long Ferry Road, Salisbury, NC 28146.
