Monday, July 25, 2011 — Dexter James Eudy, 55, of Locust, NC, peacefully passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Eudy was born October 17, 1955, in Stanly County. He was preceded in death by his father, James Paul Eudy, and mother, Zula Marie Lambert Eudy.

He was a retired postal carrier for the United States Postal Service. Dexter was a dedicated member of the Ridgecrest Volunteer Fire Department for 41 years. He served as the Assistant Fire Chief from 1976-1996. For the past 15 years, Dexter has selflessly given of his time and energy to the community by serving as the Ridgecrest Fire Chief. Dexter also served his church families throughout his life as a deacon. He was a living testimony to God’s grace while battling pancreatic cancer for the last three years. His story will continue to touch the lives of others.

The family received friends from 6-9 p.m. Friday, July 22, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service was at 5 p.m., Saturday, at West Oakboro Baptist Church of Oakboro, with a 30 minute state. Rev. Eddie Barbee and Rev. Jerry Ingle officiated with burial at Running Creek Primitive Baptist Cemetery of Locust. At other times, the family will meet at his home.

Surviving family members are his supportive wife of 35 years, Deborah Little Eudy, of the home; daughters, Jennifer Eudy Wilkinson and husband Eric of Mooresville, Jamie Eudy Dyer and husband Brandon of Harrisburg, and Jessica Eudy Fink and husband Bradley of Concord; grandchildren, Rylan Webb Wilkinson, 5 years old, Connor James Fink, 2 years old, and Ivy Jamison Dyer, six weeks old; brother, Ricky Paul Eudy and wife, Debra, of Locust; and sister, Paula Eudy Griffin and husband, Jack, of Locust.

Memorials may be made to Ridgecrest Volunteer Fire Department, or West Oakboro Baptist Church.

Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Eudy family.
