CORNELIUS - Mr. Hollis Eugene Reid, 92, of Locust, NC, formerly of Cornelius, NC, died Monday, May 20, 2013, at CMC Northeast Medical Center. Born October 11, 1920 in Davidson, NC, he was a son of the late William Alexander Reid and Minnie Howard Reid.

Mr. Reid was a lifetime member of the Cornelius Presbyterian Church. He was a WWII United States Air Force Veteran serving in the 8th Air Force 1st Bombardment Division 94th Combat Bombardment Wing stationed at Glatton Air Force Base in England, as well as, the 351st Bombardment Group (Heavy) 1061st Military Police Company at Polebrook Air Force Base in England. He was also a police officer in Cornelius in the 1950's and retired from Crescent Electric Co. as a line foreman.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Cornelius Presbyterian Church with Rev. J.E. Wayland, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Mission Baptist Church Cemetery, 12444 Mission Church Road, Locust, NC. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service in the Wayland Center at the Cornelius Presbyterian Church.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Sharyon Bumgarner of Cornelius, Denise Pender and husband Henry of Greensboro; brother Vernon Robinette of Cornelius; grandchildren, Kristi (Neal) Smith, Jamey (Michele) Bumgarner, Jeremy (Angie) Bumgarner, Matthew (Alissa) Pender, Daniel (Erin) Pender; great-grandchildren, Malea, Anna, Adam, Keeley, Caleb.

In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by his wife, Ora Lee Almond Reid, brothers, Ralph, Robert, Harold, infant brother William Reid and sisters, Eudell Wilson and Novem Darnell, and son-in-law Jimmy Bumgarner, Sr.

Memorials may be made to the Cornelius Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 279, Cornelius, NC.
