LOCUST -- Mrs. Reid, 78, of 20460 Running Creek Church Road, died Saturday, December 31, 2005 at NorthEast Medical Center. She was born in Stanly County on January 4, 1927, a daughter of the late Hugh Alexander Almond and the late Riller Lowanzia Hinson Almond.
Funeral service is 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 3, at Cornelius Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Elaine Rhodes, Rev. J. E. Wayland, Jr., and Rev. Blair Beaver officiating. Interment in Mission Baptist Church Cemetery, Locust. The family will meet at the home, 20460 Running Creek Road, Locust, and will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 PM tonight at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle.
Mrs. Reid began her nursing career in the Army Cadet Corp at Mercy Hospital in 1945. She worked for Dr. W. A. Davis, Jr. at his practice in Cornelius. Along with Dr. Davis, she helped organize the Brocker Health Center at UNCC, where she worked for 29 years. Mrs. Reid was a member of Cornelius Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Hollis Eugene Reid of Locust; daughters, Sharyon Bumgarner and husband, Jimmy, of Cornelius, and Denise Pender and husband, Henry, of Greensboro; granddaughter, Kristi B. Smith and husband, Neal, of Davidson, NC; grandsons, Jamey Bumgarner and wife, Michele, of Monument, CO, Jeremy Bumgarner and wife, Angie, of Locust, and Matthew and Daniel Pender of Greensboro; great granddaughters, Malea Smith, Keeley Smith and Anna Bumgarner; great grandson, Adam Bumgarner, and one great grandson due to arrive this month; brothers, Odell Almond and Mike Almond, both of Locust; and sisters, Frances Huneycutt, Pat Osborne and Deanie Barbee, all of Locust.
Memorials may be made to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
