Notes for Larry Curtis Eagle
Larry Curtis Eagle

SPENCER - Larry Curtis Eagle, 61, of Spencer, went on to Heaven peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, after a lifetime of sickness.

In 1970, at the age of 25, Larry made medical history at the Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem by having the first kidney transplant. His brother Tim donated his kidney to Larry and he had 15 good years with his family.

In 1985 he became sick again, resulting in his second kidney transplant from an unknown donor.

Larry was born April 6, 1945, in Guilford County, a son of the late Murray Lee “Red” Eagle and Gladys Irene Bolen Eagle. He went to North Rowan High School and retired from Fluor Daniels as a supervisor. He was a self-employed carpenter and jack of all trades.

Larry was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church in Rockwell. He had been on the building grounds committee, a member of the Mens Sunday School Class and the Mens Brotherhood. Larry was instrumental in remodeling the Springs of Life Camp in Patrick Springs, Va.

Larry is survived by his wife, Judy Bass Eagle, whom he married April 21, 1963; son Scott and wife Felicia Eagle of Salisbury; daughter Pam and husband John Barber of Salisbury; stepmother Mrs. Jo Eagle of Rockwell; brothers Wayne Eagle of Richfield and Tim Eagle of Spencer; sisters Jane Peeler of Salisbury and Barbara Spry of Roxboro; stepbrother Joe Hodge of South Carolina; stepsisters Deanie Jones of Salisbury, Donna Peeler of Rockwell and Lucille Jones of Alabama; and three Precious Grandsons, Wesley Eagle, Corey and Chase Barber.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers Willard Eagle and Calvin Henderson Eagle and sister Martha Patton.

Service: The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, Rockwell, conducted by the Dr. Benny L. Vickrey Sr. Pastor, with burial in the Church Cemetery. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the services.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at Powles Funeral Home from 6-8 tonight and at the residence the remainder of the time.

Memorials: Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Building Fund, Rockwell, NC; Rowan Regional Home Health & Hospice; or Rowan Senior Services.
