Irving Ray Casper

Irving Ray Casper, 85, of Gold Hill, passed away on Monday, December 26, 2016 at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury, surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Sylvia Morgan Casper whom he married on December 24, 1959.

Irving was born on August 15, 1931 in Rowan County to the late Luther Adam and Viola Weaver Casper. He attended Shaver School, Richfield School and Rockwell High School. Irving worked for Culp Lumber and Morgan Lumber in the saw mills for 32 ½ years until his retirement. After his retirement, he worked on the farm with Charlie Sheppard. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Irving was a lifetime member of Luther's Lutheran Church in Richfield.

Irving enjoyed the outdoors and spending time at the beach and was an avid fisher and hunter.

In addition to his parents, Irving was preceded in death by a daughter, Belinda Goodman and a brother, J.W. Casper.

In addition to his wife Sylvia of 57 years, he is survived by one son: Kenneth Ray Casper of Gold Hill; one daughter, Sarah Casper of Salisbury; five grandchildren: Rick, Samantha, Will, Joshua and Logan; and 5 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 from 6-8 pm at Powles Staton Funeral Home in Rockwell. A service will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 11 am with Rev. Tommy Beaver, pastor, officiating. Mr. Casper will lie in state from 10:30-11 am prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Rowan County Honor Guard and the NC National Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may by made to Luther's Lutheran Church, Cemetery Upkeep Fund; or the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House.
