SALISBURY - John Franklin Crawford, 81, of Salisbury, passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Born Nov. 30, 1931, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Fred and Helen Livengood Crawford.
Mr. Crawford was educated in Salisbury schools and was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War.
He owned and operated Crawford's Garage for 22 years before retiring in 1993. Prior to that he was employed for Foil Motor Company for 18 years.
Mr. Crawford was a member of Providence United Methodist Church and the Adult Men's Sunday School Class.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace Eller Crawford, on May 11, 1993.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marie Williams Crawford; sons Billy Crawford, Dennis Crawford and wife Kathy, Roger Crawford and Joel Crawford, all of Salisbury; stepdaughters Robin Williams of Oak Island, Judy Ridenhour and husband Ronnie of Cleveland; stepson Ricky Williams of Salisbury; sister Peg Williams of Salisbury; grandchildren, Jessica Foutz and husband Jon, McKenzie Crawford, Christina Crawford and Dennis Crawford Jr., all of Salisbury; and great-grandchild Jaylee Foutz.
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Summersett Funeral Home.
Service: Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 31) at Providence United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dan Gobble, officiating. Mr. Crawford will lie in state 30 minutes before the service. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Memorials: May be made to Providence United Methodist Church.
