Ida Lee Arey
Ida Lee Arey passed away peacefully September 4, 2016 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC after a short battle with leukemia.
Born in Spencer, North Carolina on October 30th 1928, she was the daughter of John T. Beck and Georgia Moore Beck. Ida graduated from Spencer High School and Pfeiffer Junior College. She worked at Wachovia Bank for 13 years before continuing her education at Catawba College and UNC Charlotte. She earned her Master’s degree in Education and went on to teach at Rockwell Elementary before retiring from the Rowan-Salisbury School System after 27 years.
She enjoyed gardening, reading, travel, and spending time with family and friends. Whether in her roles as a special teacher, a beloved grandmother, mother, or aunt, she had a gift for encouraging and inspiring others to reach their potential. She is also remembered for her example of hard work, tireless generosity to others, her strong spirit and love for those around her.
2 Timothy 1:12 I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 63 years, Robert S. Arey, and her sister Dorothy Secrest.
Ida is survived by her son Robert Arey Jr. and wife Jane, grandson Alex and granddaughter Jennifer, all of Raleigh; sisters Helen Miller, Irene Waller, Ruth Rickard, and Laura Barrier; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday September 10th at 1pm at Oakdale Baptist Church in Spencer. Following the service, the family will receive friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oakdale Baptist Church.
