Robert 'Bob' Arey Sr.

SALISBURY - Robert Stanton "Bob" Arey Sr., of Salisbury passed away at Glenn Kiser Hospice House on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013.

Bob was born in 1924, the son of the late Joseph Calvin Arey and Emma Dora Eagle Arey. He grew up in Rowan County and after graduating from Rockwell High School, he received further training becoming a master machinist.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army and served in Korea with the 1092th Engineer Division. Following his discharge, he worked at Douglas Aircraft and later retired from Norandal in 1988.

He was married to the former Ida Lee Beck for 63 years. Bob loved woodworking and crafted many beautiful pieces of furniture. He loved gardening and sharing his produce with others.

Traveling throughout the United States and Europe was his passion as long as he was able. Bob's greatest legacy is his love and devotion to his church, family and friends.

Preceding him in death were a sister, Lorraine Boger; and two brothers, J. C. Arey Jr. and Melvin Lee Arey.

He is survived by his wife; son Robert Arey Jr. and wife Jane; and two grandchildren, Alex and Jennifer.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 5-6:30 p.m. Friday (Oct. 18) at Summersett Funeral Home.

Service: A private family service will be conducted at Oakdale Baptist Church on Saturday, Oct. 19.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oakdale Baptist Church, Spencer, NC.

Summersett Funeral Home is serving the Arey family.
