SALISBURY - Mrs. Gertrude Morgan Broadway, 83, of Salisbury, passed away Monday, July 28, 2014, at The Laurels of Salisbury.

Born March 12, 1931, in Rowan County to the late Erma Shaver Morgan and Clarence Morgan, she attended Rowan County schools and was a graduate of East Spencer High School. Mrs. Broadway was a homemaker.

She was a member of Mt Tabor United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, the Grubb-Shoaf Sunday School Class, sang in the choir and was an active volunteer with the Of One Church One Child Organization. In 2013 she received the Layperson of the Year award.

Preceding her in death were her husband Curtis Ray Broadway in 2009; and infant son Kirby Dale Broadway.

Surviving are her daughters, Deena Tatum and Wendy Harkey and husband Jeff both of Salisbury; grandchildren Melinda Hartman and husband Jamie, Michael Tatum and fianceƩ Lynn; and Jordan and Hunter Harkey; and great-grandson Joseph Hartman.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday (July 30) at Summersett Funeral Home.

Service: The funeral service will be held at noon on Thursday (July 31) at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. John Hunter, Rev. Kris Mares and Rev. Curtis Goforth. Burial will follow at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Memorials: May be made to Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, Maintenance Fund, 4520 Old Mocksville Road, Salisbury, NC 28144.
