SALISBURY - Mr. Walter Clyde Koontz Jr., 70, of Salisbury, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.
Born June 29, 1943, in Rowan County to the late Mary Louise Harris Koontz and Walter Clyde Koontz Sr., he graduated from high school in 1961. Mr. Koontz worked in barbecue restaurants for 37 years and owned the Big Pig until he retired.
He was a Mason and Past Master of the Andrew Jackson Lodge. He was of the Methodist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Jackson Koontz, on April 5, 2002; brother David Lee Koontz; and sister Mary Ann Koontz.
Surviving are his wife, Alice Laman Koontz, who he married Sept. 14, 2002; sons Walter Darren Koontz of Sparta and Webster Brian Koontz of Columbia, S.C.; daughter-in-law Mary Ellis Koontz; brother John Michael Koontz of Salisbury; and three grandchildren, Johnathan, Heather and William Koontz.
Arrangements: A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 26) at Andrew Jackson Lodge 576. The family will receive friends following the service.
Memorials: May be made to National Kidney Foundation.
