Melvene G. Koontz

Melvene Goodman Koontz, 82, of Salisbury died Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Carillon Assisted Living in Salisbury.

Born in Stanly County Oct. 1, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Nora Brown Goodman and Leland Quincy Goodman.

Melvene was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Salisbury. She attended Stanly County Schools and in high school was very well known for her basketball playing ability. She was most valuable female player all four years at Richfield High School and her senior year was voted most valuable female player in Stanly County. After graduation Melvene managed her father's cattle farm and later worked at Vogue Cleaners as an inspector.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Edwin Koontz, of Salisbury; son, Earle (Laura) Koontz of Salisbury; brother, Clyde (Bud) Goodman of Richfield; sisters, Carrie Mae Wood of Salisbury, Anne Robinson, of Cramerton Mountain and Alva Sells of Richfield; two grandchildren, Will Koontz and Evan Koontz.

Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Mark Conforti officiating. A private burial will be held.

Memorials: Memorials may be made to the NC Lions Inc. for Glaucoma Research or Rowan Hospice and Paliative Care of Rowan County.
