Notes for James G. “Jim” Remeta
James G. (Jim) Remeta

James G. Remeta (Jim) passed away on Jan. 4, 2022, at his residence after a long battle with Inclusion Body Myositis, which unfortunately has no cure yet.

Jim grew up in North Carolina with his two brothers, Douglas (older) and David (younger). He said it was so much fun to grow up with three boys in the house. He attended East Rowan High School and won a national science award. Jim continued his education at NCSU for Nuclear Engineering until he graduated with a master's degree. He worked for several engineering companies. He was Vice President of Business Development for the aluminum smelter business sector for Kaiser Engineers in Oakland, California. Then, the Principal Vice President for Business Development for Bechtel's Mining and Metals business sector, based in San Francisco and Denver.

Jim was a very talented manager and was excellent at mentoring and training other younger professionals. He successfully sold engineering and construction services for mega-projects to an international clientele and traveled worldwide for Bechtel.

Jim had to take an early disability retirement in 2000 due to his disease. Jim and his wife Marilyn (his high school sweetheart) moved to Fort Bragg, California. They were devoted to each other. Marilyn died ten years before him.

Despite Jim's severe and disabling health condition, he remained a cheerful and humorous person who enjoyed life. He spent his retirement enjoying his passion for music with more than 30000 classical CDs. He was active in the music in his youth; he was member of the band and the drum major in high school and was in the band and glee club at university. He was proud to be selected as a solo singer at the NCSU big event.

His parents, John and Evelyn, and his wife Marilyn preceded Jim's death.

Surviving Jim are his brothers Douglas and David; sister-in-law, Dianne, and a niece Cristy. Jim will be missed by Tommi, who has been his friend and caregiver, and many others who knew and loved him. Jim enjoyed having picnic lunches in many spots along the coast.

Arrangements: As was his wish, his cremated remains will be scattered at sea.
