Jacob Larry Setzer
Jacob Larry Setzer, 93, of Salisbury passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Autumn Care Nursing Home.
Born in Rowan County on November 25, 1928, he was the son of the late Lottie Weaver Setzer and Simeon Gustavus Setzer.
Mr. Setzer graduated from Rockwell High School in 1945 and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He worked at Fiber Industries as a maintenance supervisor for 11 years and at Litton Taylor as a shop supervisor for 18 years. Mr. Setzer served most of his adult life on the Board of Trustees, Administrative Board, and other positions at Providence United Methodist Church. He sang with the East Spencer Men’s Chorus, the Salisbury Singing Seniors for 15 years, and the Providence United Methodist Church Choir for 70 years. He also delivered Meals on Wheels for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Louise Setzer Clodfelter, Gladys Setzer Kreiser, Irma Setzer Lackey, Dorothy Setzer Whitley and brothers, Fred Setzer and Lloyd Setzer.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Betty Rose Peeler Setzer, whom he married on August 15, 1953; son, Brad Setzer of Salisbury; daughter, Sharon Setzer Hall (Frank) of Salisbury; grandchildren, Angela Hall Eatmon (Matthew) of Angier, NC, Lauren Hall Poole (J.R.) of Salisbury; great-grandchildren, Gavin Eatmon and Mason Poole and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 10:30-11:00 AM Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Providence United Methodist Church, 6450 Bringle Ferry Rd, Salisbury, NC. Service will follow at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Aldana Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the Lyerly Volunteer Joint Services Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providence United Methodist Church, 6450 Bringle Ferry Rd., Salisbury, NC, or the Children’s Home Society of North Carolina, P.O. Box 14608, Greensboro, NC.
