Mr. Harold William Barrier, 84 of Salisbury, NC formerly of Rockwell, NC passed away Friday, Sept. 12, 2008 at the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks, Salisbury, NC. Harold was born in Rowan County the son of the late Clyde Monroe Barrier and Minnie Lee Bost Barrier.
Harold was a 1941 graduate of Rockwell High School and attended North Carolina State University, Veteran of World War II serving in the US Navy on board the USS Frybarger and Past Commander of the Miller-Russell American Legion Post # 112 in Rockwell. Harold loved cooking and was co-owner & operator of Rockwell Restaurant and the Food Locker Restaurant for eight years and he later worked with the Rowan County Food Service and Rowan County Senior Services until he retired.
Harold devoted his life to helping and serving others, especially the crippled and burned children. He loved his family and friends and lived life to its fullest. Harold was a member of Ursinus United Church of Christ, former Sunday School Superintendent, former member of the Consistory Board and had taught Sunday School. Harold was a life member and Past Master of the Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge # 657, a life member and Past President of the Rowan County Shrine Club and a life member of the Oasis Temple and the Rockwell Chapter # 317 Eastern Star. Member of the Salisbury York Rite Bodies.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jennie Wilhelm Barrier, whom he married January 4, 1947, son; Gray Barrier of Greeley, Colorado, daughter; Susan Giessler and husband Randy of Faith, NC, sister; Isabel Barrier Garvey of Salisbury, NC.
Visitation will be held in the Ursinus United Church of Christ Fellowship Hall from 12:30 to 1:45 PM Monday, Sept. 15, 2008
Funeral Services: 2:00 PM Monday, Sept. 15, 2008 at Ursinus United Church of Christ, Rockwell, NC conducted by Rev. Jim Staunton, Pastor and Rev. Michael Childress of the First United Church of Christ, Salisbury. Members of the Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge and the Rockwell Eastern Star will be seated as a group in the church. Entombment will follow at Brookhill Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Rockwell with Masonic Rites by the Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge # 657.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Childrens Hospital.
