Jennie Wilhelm Barrier
Jennie Frances Wilhelm Barrier, 88, formerly of Rockwell, passed away very peacefully on Palm Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Salisbury after a period of declining health. Jennie was born on August 28, 1928, in Rowan County to the late Vastine S. Wilhelm and Emma Hunsucker Wilhelm.
Jennie graduated from Rockwell High School and retired after many years of working in retail and at B.B. Walker Shoe Company. She was a member of Ursinus United Church of Christ in Rockwell and a charter member and past matron of Rockwell Chapter No. 317 Order of the Eastern Star.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Harold W. Barrier. Also preceding her were her brothers John Johnston, Everette Wilhelm, Carl Wilhelm and James Wilhelm and her sisters Grace Stiller, Lacie Albright, Ruth Goodson, Maude Menius, Virginia Yost and Beatrice Jordan.
Those who survive her are her son, Gray Barrier of Greeley, Colorado; daughter, Susan Giessler and husband, Randy of Faith; brother, Dwight Wilhelm (Betty) of Salisbury and sweet Gemma, her grand-dog.
She is also survived by many, many nieces and nephews, in-laws, 'adopted' children and grandchildren and special friends and neighbors.
Service and visitation: The family will greet friends and relatives from 12:30 PM to 1:45 PM on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Ursinus United Church of Christ in Rockwell. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the church conducted by Rev. Catherine Costello, pastor.
Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Brookhill Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Ursinus UCC - Improvement Fund, PO Box 175, Rockwell, NC, 28138 or Rowan Hospice & Palliative Care, 720 Grove Street, Salisbury, NC. 28144.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the management, staff and residents of Brookdale Salisbury who so compassionately cared for, accepted and loved Jennie from the day she became a member of their community in 2015. You became a part of her life, treated her like one of your own and we are truly grateful.
We also thank Rowan Hospice for the care and assistance provided to Jennie as she traveled on her journey to heaven.
