Ret. Lt. Colonel Reather (R.C.) Furr, Jr.

Ret. Lt. Colonel Reather (R.C.) Furr, Jr., 87, of Albemarle, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2022 at his home.

R.C. was born October 1, 1934 in Stanly County, North Carolina to the late Reather Cornelius Furr, Sr. and the late Gladys Taylor Furr. He lived a full and interesting life, always following his dreams all over the world.  He loved flying and used every opportunity to be in the cockpit, whatever the vehicle.  What he did, he enjoyed, pursuing a lifetime of learning.  He also enjoyed attending Porter United Methodist Church and encouraged others to join him there.

He was  preceded in death by wife, Phyllis Marbry Furr; daughters, Susan Marie Underwood and Caroline Rebecca Norton; grandson, Garry Lee Lanham; and brother, Roland Anthony Furr.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm, Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at Porter United Methodist Church. The funeral service will immediately follow on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Porter United Methodist Church in Norwood officiated by Rev. Jim Yow. Burial will follow at the Stanly Gardens of Memory at 2001 East Main St., Albemarle.

Survivors include daughter, Cornetha (Kyle) Holcomb of Albemarle and son, Kelvin (Christina) Furr of Whiteville; son-in-law, Terry (Nina) Underwood; four grandchildren, Brittany Norton (Matthew) Brady, Lauren E. Holcomb, Gabrielle C. (David McCall) Holcomb, and Daniel J. Underwood; two great-grandsons, Liam McCall and Isaiah Brady; two great-granddaughters, Aurelia McCall and Millie Holcomb; sister, Nancy Pauline Furr of Albemarle; sister-in-law, Frances I. Furr of Albemarle; and a niece and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Porter United Methodist Church.
