Rev. Donald (Don) Mark Leonard, age 79, of Mt. Top Drive, Asheboro passed away Friday morning (January 21, 2011) at his home. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday (January 26, 2011) at Second Reformed United Church of Christ where he was a member with Rev. Dr. Joe D. Coltrane and Dr. Melvin Palmer officiating.

The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Tuesday.

Don was born in Davidson County, August 14, 1931 to Rev. A. Odell Leonard and Pearl Irene Peeler Leonard. He was a graduate of Lexington High School, Catawba College and Lancaster Theological Seminary. He served the United Church of Christ as a minister, serving as an associate minister at Second Reformed UCC, served First Reformed UCC, Asheboro, Salem Hellers UCC in Leola, PA and was interim pastor at Memorial UCC in Lexington. He was a former Civitan and Lion club member, Asheboro Masonic Lodge #699, Served on the board of Randolph Mental Health, Mens Fellowship Home and Alpha House and the Asheboro Contact Board. He served as a Chaplain with Randolph Hospital, and Asheboro Fire and Police Department. He was active with Nazareth Childrens Home and the Asheboro Ministerial Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Agnes Wilson Leonard on November 18, 2009; two brothers, Lindsay Leonard and Rev. Dr. Billy Joe Leonard.

Surviving are: two daughters, Julie Leonard of New Salem, NC and Jane Leonard of Pinehurst; two sons, Kelly Leonard and wife Keiko of Hendersonville, NC and Lee Leonard and wife Bonna of Pinehurst; five grandchildren, Lindsay Leonard, Emilyanne Leonard, Sydney Leonard, Shann Leonard and Carter Leonard and one sister, Martha Bruff and husband Tommy of Lexington and a dear family friend Vicki Grooms of New Salem.

In lieu of flowers memorials should be directed to Hospice of Randolph County.
