Dr. Edwin W. Lipe age 89 of 301 Ildewood Dr., died Tuesday, October 19, 1999 at Brian Center. A native of Raleigh, NC he was born May 5, 1910 son of the late Henry L. Lipe Sr. and Nell Witherspoon Lipe.
Dr. Lipe practiced dentistry in Kannapolis and with the N.C. Department of Human Resources in the schools of Cabarrus and surrounding counties.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He attended Duke University and graduated from the Atlanta Southern Dental College, and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and Omega Dental Fraternity. During World War II he served in England with the 8th Air Force Dental Corp.
Funeral services for Dr. Lipe will be held 2:00 PM Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Reverends, Don Shuman, Wendy Shenk-Evans and Ms. Sara Weaver officiating. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 PM Thursday at Lady's Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Gette Lipe, whom he married January 10, 1946; brother, Henry Lipe, Jr. of Asheville, NC; nephew, Henry L. Lipe III of Hampton, NH; nieces, LiNelle Cline Woodall of Charlotte, NC, Gil Lipe Lasky of Goose Creek, SC, and Ann Lipe Zielenbach of Columbus, OH.
Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, Kannapolis, or the charity of the donor's choice.
