Marlene Smith Morton

Marlene Morton, 82, of Albemarle, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Atrium Health Stanly Hospital in Albemarle.

Marlene was born October 7, 1941, in North Carolina to the late Moses Ezekiel Smith and Venie Louselma Smith.  She was also preceded in death by husband, Rayvon Leroy Morton, sisters, Edith "Betty" Holt, Lucille Calloway, brothers, Tally Smith , Dwight Smith.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Friday, January 12, 2024 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 11 am at Poplin Grove Baptist Church in Albemarle officiated by Pastor Darrell Nance. Burial will follow at the Poplin Grove Baptist Church Cemetery at 220 Poplins Grove Church Road, Albemarle.

Survivors include daughter, Angela Morton (Charity Ballard) of Concord, NC; son, Calvin L Morton (Teresa Vickers) of Fountain Inn, SC; grandchildren, Josie Morton, Deena Morton, and Patrick Vickers; great-grandson, Channin McCullough; grand-dogs, Garnet, Max, and Diamond; sister, Hazel Lowder of Durham, NC; brothers, Elwood Smith, Ralph Smith, Darrell Smith all of Albemarle, NC.

Marlene absolutely loved flowers and her favorite color was red. She was a fashionista that always put on her red lipstick, and she was a skilled seamstress that took great pride in the beautiful dresses and suits that she sewed for herself and her children. Singing in the choir along with her husband and son at Poplin Grove Baptist Church was a major point of pride for Marlene.

Memorials may be made to Poplin Grove Baptist Church.

She is with the love of her life and her Lord and Savior now.
