Derwood passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2014. He was 86.

Born in Greene County, MO on December 27, 1927 to James and Hazel  (Sifferman) Wilson, Derwood was the first of 10 children and held notoriety as the 6th cousin to the famous Kit Carson.

On June 10, 1948 Derwood married the love of his life, Wilda Leath, in a  ceremony in Marionville, MO.

Their union was blessed with two children, Kenneth and Philip.

The family moved from Missouri to Oklahoma in 1977 and in 2001 Verdigris became home.

Derwood worked, alongside wife Wilda, in the bus barn at Tulsa Public  Schools as a mechanic for 10 years until his retirement.

At the age of 72, Derwood discovered a new passion of making harps.  This interest began when a young student enlisted Derwood's help after the school's harp fell and broke.

Derwood, known as a talented craftsman, woodworker  and a jack-of-all-trades, repaired the harp for the school and started  making harps not only for sale but also gifting many to family members.

Also in his free time, Derwood could be found on the banks of many local  area lakes camping and fishing.

This loving husband, father and grandfather will be missed by all who  knew him.

Derwood is survived by his wife of 65 years, Wilda Wilson; children Kenneth Wilson and wife Sue, Philip Wilson and wife Annette;  six grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; brothers Norwood, Carlos,  Charles and Larry Wilson; sisters Jo Ella, Kay, Sammy and Monalee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Derwood was preceded in death by his parents and sister Floy.

In lieu of flowers or other condolences please consider making a donation in Derwood "Shorty" Wilson's name to Ruckman Cemetery at 11077 Lawrence 1245, Marionville, MO 65705.
