Mary Edith Houston

Mary Edith Houston, 93, of Salisbury passed away Thursday, March 24, 2016, at her residence. She was born on May 26, 1922 in Salisbury. The daughter of the late Ralph Shaver and Myrtle Earnhardt Shaver.

Mrs Houston was a graduate of Rockwell High School and attended Pfeiffer College. She had worked with her husband, Red Houston for many years delivering the Salisbury Post in Rowan County. Mrs. Houston was a member of Landmark Church. She served as organist for many years and was very active in all church activities. She was a collector of teddy bears, dolls, thimbles and loved her sunflower garden. Mrs. Houston loved being with her family especially her grandchildren Scarlette, Lauren and Nicklaus.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Watson "Red" Houston who died in April of 2008.

Survivors include, son Rick Houston of Salisbury; granddaughters Scarlette Houston and Lauren Houston; grandson Nicklaus Houston; and sister Louise Hollis of Albemarle.

Services: Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 Pm Tuesday at the Harrisburg Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Harrisburg by Pastor Mike Robinson, pastor of Landmark Church.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, April 3, 2016, at Landmark Church by Pastor Mike Robinson, pastor.

The Houston family would like to thank Liberty Home Care Hospice nurse Leslie Varner; caregivers, Karen Dutton and Vickie Lippard, and a special thanks to caregiver Debra Dempwolf for her 24/7 care over past few years.

Memorials may be made to Landmark Church, Salisbury.
