Notes for Miriam Irene Walker
Miriam Walker Yost

Miriam Irene Walker Yost, 88, of Concord, passed away, Saturday, September 28, at Atrium Health - Cabarrus.  She was born May 15, 1931 in Cabarrus County.

The funeral service for Miriam will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church where she was baptized and married and was a lifelong member, on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at 3pm. The family will receive friends beginning at 2pm in the church sanctuary.

Miriam passed quickly and without pain or prolonged illness. She loved Jesus, baking, country music, and her family. During life, she worked sewing hosiery in various mills which were common in this area during her younger years. One of the mills in which she worked is now the popular restaurant 73 & Main. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Horace Walker and Anna Irene Kluttz Walker, and her siblings Mildred Walker Sherwood, Margaret Walker, Audrey Walker Ashby, and George Walker, Sr.

Special "thank you" to the Rev. Dr. Mark J. Ericson for his long term service as her pastor, Ashlee Vineyard who has been a faithful caregiver for Miriam and Paul, and The Northeast Foundation and the staff of Atrium-Cabarrus for the excellent care they provided during Miriam’s brief hospital stay in the cardiac ICU.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, George Paul Yost, her son, Paul Eddie Yost and wife Peggy, her daughter, Vickie Yost Wilson, her granddaughter, Paula Yost and husband Peter Schupp, two grandsons, Brandon Wilson and wife Rachele, Derek Wilson and wife Jessica, and three great-grandsons, Pratley, Pierson, and Paul Schupp, who called her “NeNe” and who she loved deeply. She is also survived by her only remaining sister, Doris Lippard, of Statesville.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to The Sonshine Backpack Ministry, c/o Bonita Rowland, at 100 St. John’s Church Road, Concord, NC.  Miriam had a lengthy commitment to this ministry and she annually contributed to feed at least one hungry child in the Mount Pleasant area.
