George Paul Yost

George Paul Yost, 89, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2021, at his residence.

His life will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, February 15, at the Gordon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Rick Phelps officiating. The Yost family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the cemetery of St. John’s Lutheran Church where he was a member.

A Cabarrus County native, Paul was born September 27, 1931, to the late Carl Yost and Onie Troutman Yost. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Miriam Walker Yost, who passed away September 28, 2019; a brother, Carl Yost, Jr.; and two sisters, Helen Y. Parks and Voncille Craig.

Paul retired as a supervisor from Cannon Mills where he had worked 44 years. His leisure pursuits focused on outdoor activities and included farming, raising beagles, rabbit hunting, fishing and training work horses and cattle.

Survivors left to mourn his passing include a daughter, Vickie Y. Wilson; a son, Paul Eddie Yost (Peggy); three grandchildren, Paula Yost (Peter Shupp), Brandon Wilson (Rachele) and Derek Wilson (Jessica); three great-grandchildren, Pratley, Pierson and Paul Schupp; two sisters, Frances Y. Crisco and Dorothy Y. Goodman (Harry); and two brothers, Harold Yost, and Brady Yost (Mildred).

The Yost family extend thanks and gratitude to caregivers Trish Quinlivan and Patty Martin with special thanks to Ashlee Vineyard who was a faithful caregiver for Paul for over three years. The care received from these caregivers allowed Paul to remain in his home during his health decline.
