Dorothy Setzer Whitley
Dorothy Setzer Whitley, 95 of Salisbury passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at the Laurels of Salisbury. Dorothy was born March 12, 1924 in Rowan County to the late Simeon Gustavus Setzer and the late Lottie Weaver Setzer.
Dorothy was educated in the Rowan County Schools, was a member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church and worked as a waitress at Wink’s Fish Camp.
In addition to her parents Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin L. Whitley, son, Jody Wayne Whitley, brothers, Fred Setzer and Loyd Setzer, sisters, Louise Clodfelder, Gladys Kriser and Irma Lackey.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Jeff Whitley of Salisbury, daughter Jane Ellen Whitley of Charlotte, brother, Jake Setzer (Betty Rose) of Salisbury, grandchildren, Morgan Michelle Whitley Singor (Jordan), Ryan Matthew Whitley (Lindsey) and Brett Michael Whitley.
Visitation: 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM Monday, May 27, 2019 in the Sanctuary of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, 4520 Old Mocksville Road, Salisbury, NC.
Service: 2:00 PM Monday, May 27, 2019 at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kris Mares officiating, burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorials: Memorials may be made to the Marvin L. and Dorothy L. Whitley Scholarship Fund at UNC Charlotte, Office of University Development.
