Notes for Mary Lee Bowers
Mary Lee Bowers Hatley

Mary Lee Bowers Hatley, 89, passed away on Friday, May 11, 2018. She was born on March 4, 1929, in Stanly County to the late Isaac Brentley and Mary Elizabeth Tucker Bowers.

Mary Lee attended East Albemarle and Oakboro schools. She was employed by Rowan (Parkdale) Mills for over thirty years. Upon retirement, she enjoyed taking care of her great-grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, and gardening. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

As a seven year resident at the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks, Mary could often be found enjoying time with her family on the front porch on sunny afternoons. She was quite well known for her singing and was often asked to share a song or two.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers I.B. Bowers, Roscoe Bowers, Lonnie Bowers, Rayvon Bowers, and Hobert Bowers; and sisters Margaret Vanhoy and Nellie Pence. She was also preceded in death by her great-grandson, Nolan Morrison.

She is survived by her daughter, Sylvia Hatley Doyle (Jimmy) and son, Terry Hatley (Mitzi), both of Salisbury, NC. Also left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren Tammy Young (Graham) of Salisbury, Lisa Morrison of Salisbury, and Garet Hatley (Pam) of New Orleans, LA. Mary was blessed with great-grandchildren Taylor Young of Durham NC, Margaret Young of Salisbury, Nolan Morrison, and Savannah Hatley of New Orleans LA. She was expecting another great-grandchild, Everett Hatley, in June.

Service & Visitation: A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Summersett Memorial Chapel with Pastor Mike Shoaf of Nazareth Community Church officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Rowan Memorial Park – The Chapel in the Pines Mausoleum.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Nazareth Community Church, or the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks.

The family wishes to send a special "thank you" to the administrators, staff, and residents at the Lutheran Home for making Mary Lee feel at home during her stay.
