Donald Banks Lowder

Born Dec. 10, 1933, in Cabarrus County, the son of the late John C. "Pete" Lowder and the late Martha Troutman Lowder, he had been employed by the N.C. Department of Transportation as a bridge maintenance supervisor. He retired from the N.C. DOT with 36 years of service.

Mr. Lowder was a lifelong member of Salem United Methodist Church where he held various offices. After helping to establish and organize the Millingport VFD, he volunteered there for 20 years.

The love of his life was his family. After retiring he enjoyed his tractor, gardening, and sharing his crop with friends and family. He enjoyed telling stories about times past and present of his many adventures in his life. He also loved trips to the beach with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, George R. "Bob" Lowder.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Lambert Lowder, of the home; daughters, Donna Taylor and husband, David, of Kannapolis, Gwen Hinson and husband, Mike, of New London, Cindy Blackman and husband, Coy, of Monroe, and Bonnie Ward and husband, Dale, of Badin; grandchildren, Nathan Taylor, Erin Taylor Hyman and husband, Tim, Dustin Hinson and Clinton Hinson, Shannon Blackman Sells and husband, Mitchell, and Brandon Blackman, Adrienne Ward and Derek Ward; and great grandchildren, Taylor Hyman and Sawyer Sells.
