Notes for Mabel Virginia “Ginny” Morton
Ginny Hearne

Mabel has passed into the hands of her Savior and into the arms of her beloved husband, John. She will be remembered for her big smile, spontaneous hugs, and red hair.

She was born Mabel Virginia Morton, daughter of William Rolley Morton and Rebecca Cagle Morton in Albemarle, North Carolina, the second youngest of 11 children. Ginny's father passed when she was a girl and, at the young age of 13, she quit school to work in the Wiscasset Cotton Mill to support her family.

She met the love of her life, John H. Hearne, at a church event and, at the age of 15 (he was 18), they eloped to South Carolina where they could be legally wed. John joined the military and they began a life of travel throughout his long 31-year career in the Air Force. She was a strong wife as he served during three wars. She also loved the travel but enjoyed some assignments more than others. She loved the beach at Cape Canaveral, FL but disliked the cockroaches. She loved the Northern Lights in Newfoundland, Canada but disliked all the snow. She really loved living in Tucson. Along the way, she and John had four children, and suffered the loss of one daughter, Martha Sue, in infancy. She and John moved to Rancho Cordova in 1969 when he retired. She continued to work as a kitchen supervisor at the Mather AFB child care center where she received many recognitions for excellent service.

After Ginny retired, she and John enjoyed long walks along the American River and the support of her close church family. They attended the United Methodist Church of Rancho Cordova for more than 40 years. John passed in 2012 after 73 years of marriage and now his "tomato-head" is with him in Heaven.

She is survived by her son Michael (Beth) of Carmichael, CA, her son Joe (Linda) of Livermore, CA, her daughter Patricia Powel (Peter) of Montrose, CO, her granddaughter Joleen Sposeto of Gilbert, AZ, her granddaughter Lisa Timberlake (Jess) of Livermore, CA, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A tribute will be held during the Sunday, November 8th 10 a.m. service at the United Methodist Church of Rancho Cordova on Zinfandel Drive with a celebration to follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be at 2pm on November 11th (Veteran's Day) at the Field of Honor section at Camellia Memorial Lawn in Sacramento.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests prayers for all those dealing with dementia.
