Katherine Kluttz Gillespie

SALISBURY - Katherine Kluttz Gillespie, 91, died Sunday Jan. 21, 2007 at Genesis Eldercare.

She was born June 9, 1915 in Rowan County to the late Minnie Ellen Painter Kluttz and John Calvin Kluttz. She was a graduate of Mount Ulla High School. Mrs. Kluttz was a homemaker and was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, WELCA and West Rowan Senior Citizens.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by son, Russell Leroy Gillespie; brothers, George and Lewis Kluttz; sisters, Ada Belle Beaver, Elmina Kluttz Burton and Sadie Dagenhart.

She is survived by her husband, Clyde Melvin Gillespie whom she married on April 16, 1938; daughter-in-law, Betty Gillespie of Salisbury; daughter, Rachel Gillespie Shepherd and husband Billy Frank of Salisbury; brothers, Charles Rufus Kluttz of Millbridge; grandchildren, LaTina R. Jarvis, Sherry R. Styron, Timothy A. Gillespie and Lisa G. Eagle; step-grandchildren, Craig Rufty, Kevin Rufty and Steve Rufty; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Service: 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church with Rev. Mary Louise Sitton and Pastor James F. Shelley of S.C. officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot in the church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. tonight at Lyerly Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at daughter Rachel Shepherd's residence.
