Donald Lynwood Harrison
Mr. Donald “Don” Lynwood Harrison, 69, passed away at home on Sunday, January 4, 2015. A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM, Thursday, January 8 at Wilkinson Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Pastor Michael Waters. The family will receive friends from 11:00-1:00 prior to the service. Burial will follow at Gold Hill Cemetery.
Don was born on June 25, 1945 in Chesapeake, VA to the late Lynwood Earl and Louise Rapper Harrison. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Harrison.
Don is a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served in Vietnam as a Captain for the Green Berets. He had also previously gone to school at VMI and graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill. Don was a journalist for many years, writing many sports columns and also worked as an independent insurance agent.
He is survived by his daughter, Summer H. Floyd; sisters, Sherry, Debbie and Brenda; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
