Lawson Alvin "Hoggie" Poole

ROCKWELL -- Lawson Alvin "Hoggie" Poole, 81, Rockwell, died Thursday (April 22, 2004) at Hefner VAMedical Center, Salisbury.

Born March 7, 1923, in Rowan County, Mr. Poole, a son of the late Lawson Alexander and Lula Pierce Poole, was a 1941 graduate of Rockwell High School. While in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he served aboard the USS Grundy.

A car salesman, he retired from Earnhardt Motors. He was a member of Grace Lowerstone United Church of Christ, Faith American Legion and Rockwell Amvets.

Survivors include wife Etta Mae Rinehart Poole, whom he married April 1, 1947; son Alvin Lonnie Poole, Rockwell; daughters Candy Broadway, Rockwell, and Carmelita Antosek, Salisbury; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 4 p.m. Sunday, Grace Lowerstone United Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. Kevin L. Gilliam. Burial, church cemetery. Military rites by Rowan County Veterans Council.

Visitation: 5-7 tonight, Powles Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home.

Memorials: Grace Lowerstone United Church of Christ, Memorial Fund.
