Death of Jas. F. Dotson, Esq

James F. Dotson, Esq., formerly a prominent and well known citizen of the county, died Tuesday morning at the State hospital at Morganton, where he had been undergoing treatment since last November. His remains were brought to Elmwood Tuesday evening and taken to his home near there. Wednesday they were interred at Fifth Creek church, the funeral services being conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. J. Tidball. Deceased was a member of the Presbytrian Church.

Mr. Dotson was a native of Cabarrus county and was 63 years old. He had for many years been a resident of Chambersburg township, his home being near Oak Forest post-office. He was a farmer and mechanic, following in earlier life the trade of a millwright. He was long prominent in the affairs of his community and the county and was twice elected to the State Senate from the district composed of Iredell, Alexander and Wilkes, first in 1882 and again in 1884.

Deceased was twice married and was the father of eight children, four by each marriage. His second wife and six children, three by each marriage, and two step-children survive. Messrs. P. V. and Geo. W. Dotson, of Statesville, are his sons and Mrs. P. R. Houpe, of Oak Forest.

Mr. Dotson had been bedridden and seriously ill mentally and physically from a stroke of paralysis which he suffered in the spring of last year. His death resulted from a second stroke.
