Carlene Whitley Brady

SALISBURY - Mrs. Carlene Whitley Brady, 68, of Salisbury, passed away Feb. 14, 2012, at her residence.

Mrs. Brady was born May 17, 1943, in Stanly County, daughter of the late Hubert Filmore Whitley and Eva Jane Freeman Whitley.

Educated in Rowan County schools and at East Rowan High School, she was a homemaker, had been a newspaper carrier and did catering work.

She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and the Baptist Women. She was a loving mother and enjoyed being with her family. She also loved cooking, sewing and crocheting.

Survivors include her husband, John William Brady, Sr., who she married Nov. 4, 1961; two sons, John W. Brady, Jr. and wife Elizabeth, James Allen Brady and wife Sonya of Salisbury; two daughters, Teresa Brady Shinn and husband James Lee of Rockwell and Paula Jean Desmond and husband Donald of Easton, Pa.; two brothers, Lane Whitley of Denton and Boyd Whitley of Boone; five sisters including Geraldine Wilholt of Conway, S.C., Lorene File of Salisbury, Christine Dyson of Mocksville, Josephine Burton and Elvene Tester of Banner Elk. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Service: The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Eastside Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Joe Black, pastor, with burial at Brookhill Memorial Gardens. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Powles Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mr. John W. Brady, Sr. to defray funeral expenses.

Powles Funeral Home is assisting the Brady family.
