CONCORD - Luke Herman Drye, 86, of 114 Arlington Ave., Concord, died Saturday, March 25, 2006, at Morningside Assisted Living. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord. The Rev. Abe G. Ferris will officiate. Burial will follow at Mission Baptist Church Cemetery, Locust. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord. At other times the family will be at 114 Arlington Ave., Concord.
Born May 30, 1919, in Cabarrus County, he was a son of the late James Edward Drye Sr. and Roseanna (Harvell) Drye. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was self employed with L.H. Drye Trucking. He was a member of Cold Water Baptist Church. He was a Sunday school teacher and a former deacon.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee Roye Drye and Floyd Hugh Drye; sister, Louise (Drye) Lane; and an infant son.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Minnie Joesphine (Crayton) Drye; son, Jerry Drye and wife, Connie, of Concord; brothers, Lewis M. Drye of Kannapolis and James E. Drye of Stanfield; sister, Bonda Whitley of Oakboro; granddaughters, Anna Margaret Stancil and husband, Richard, and Ginger Salmon and husband, Richard; a number of nieces and nephews; and four great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cabarrus County, P.O. Box 1235, Concord, NC 28026.
