Minnie Joesphine Crayton Drye

CONCORD -- Mrs. Drye, age 87, passed away on April 21 2008 at Morningside Assisted Living of Concord surrounded by her family. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home - Concord with the funeral following in the chapel starting at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Jim Posey from Coldwater Baptist Church in Concord, NC will officiate. Burial will be at Mission Baptist Church in Locust, NC. At other times the family will be at the home of her son, Jerry Drye or 114 Arlington Avenue, Concord, NC.

Joe was born June 5, 1920 in Cabarrus County and was the daughter of the late Shuford Crayton and Essie Osmond Crayton. She spent most of her employment at various hosiery mills in Cabarrus County. In later life she was an avid gardener and spent many hours working with her flowers. Jo was a long time member of Coldwater Baptist Church in Concord, NC.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Luke H. Drye; their infant son; four brothers, J. C. 'Jay' Crayton, Matthew 'Mac' Crayton, Benjamin 'Ben' Crayton; Lloyd Crayton, and two sisters, Thelma Crayton Auten and Mary Crayton Mullins. Survivors include her son, Jerry Maxe Drye and wife, Connie of Concord, NC; granddaughters, Anna Drye Stancil and husband, Richard and Ginger Bowling Salmon and husband, Richard; five great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003, Hospice Lane Kannapolis, NC 28081. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Morningside Assisted Living for the love and care given to Jo during her time in the 'Gardens'. Their love and attention given to her the last several years will always be remembered by the family.
