Notes for Phyllis Ruth Steffy
Phyllis R. Phillips

Phyllis R. (Steffy) Phillips, 58, left us Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011.

Phyllis was born Jan. 26, 1953, to Helen and Robert Steffy. A 1971 Canton Lehman High School graduate, Phyllis lived in Canton most of her life.

Phyllis served in the US Army as a medic during the Persian Gulf War. Taking care of her family was always her first priority. She worked for many years doing what she loved, rescuing, taking care of and grooming animals.

Her mother, Helen Steffy, preceded Phyllis in death.

Phyllis is survived by her father, Robert Steffy; two children, Candace (Heath) Guerin and Billy (April) Phillips, Jr.; four grandchildren, Jayson Guerin, Courtney Guerin, Lyric Phillips, and Arolyn Phillips; and three nephews, Henry Strange Jr., Mark Strange, and Matt Strange.

A memorial service will be held at American Legion Post 44, in Canton on March 13, 2011 at 2 p.m. A private family interment will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made at FirstMerit Bank: The Phyllis Phillips Benevolent Fund.

Thru great help from the Rowan County NC Genealogiocal Society I have much more information on Ernest Rollin Odell, his wife Viola Mae Page and the dates of his birth, their marriage and his death. It also took a visit to Salisbury, Rowan County, NC as well as Concord, NC and Randolph County, NC. Ernest was one of seven children of John Laban Odell, only son of CSA Major Laban Odell and Mary Craven. Ernest was born in 1888 in Rowan County, NC. The couple were residing in Washington DC at the time of Ernest's death. This past weekend I visited NC and the graves of Ernest and Viola, her parents, grandparents and great-grandparents as well as his neice by marriage and the graves of Laban Odell and his parents in Randolph Co. NC. I also aquired some information on the Odell's who ended up in Indiana, Illinois and Iowa. Will have gravesite photos soon.
