CHINA GROVE - Mr. Herman Council Ritchie, 87, of China Grove, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Kiser Hospice House.

Born on May 8, 1926, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Archie Leon and Nancy Ella Lippard Ritchie. A longtime member of Mount Zion United Church of Christ, he was a graduate of Landis High School.

Mr. Ritchie played with the Sing-N-Strings Country Christian Music Band where he entertained at nursing homes. His work life was as a farmer and mechanic. He was also known for his handyman skills and carpentry.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife of 64 years, Faye Overcash Ritchie, in 2009; his brothers, Donald and Ralph Ritchie; and sister Ruby Sechler.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Betty Ritchie, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation and Service: Visitation is Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. at Mount Zion United Church of Christ with funeral at 3 p.m. also at the church with Rev. Mark Burns, minister. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.

Memorials: May be made to Mount Zion United Church of Christ, New Building Fund, China Grove.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
