Mr. Luther Monroe Welch, 78, of Rockwell, NC passed away Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.

Born October 29, 1934 in Franklin, NC to the late Miley Sutton Welch and James William Welch, he was educated in Gastonia, NC. Mr. Welch worked for NC Finishing Company. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War.

Preceding him in death was his daughter, Catherine Diane Ellenburg on March 2, 2013 as well as four sisters and three brothers.

Surviving is his wife Sarah Lovette Welch whom he married on December 21, 1957; son, James Donald Welch and wife Kathy of Spencer, NC; daughters, Janice Marie Holshouser and husband Don of Rockwell, NC and Velma Welch West and husband Cooter Darby of Faith, NC; son-in-law, Bobby Ellenburg; brothers, Jay Welch of Gastonia, NC and Carlos Welch of Lincolnton, NC; and sisters, Mary Parish of Gastonia, NC and Margaret Reep of Fayetteville, NC. Twelve grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren also survive him.

A visitation will be held from 6-8 PM Wednesday (Sept 25) at Summersett Funeral Home.

The graveside service will be held at 1 PM Thursday (Sept 26) at Rowan Memorial Park, conducted by Rev. Randal Addison.

Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of NC.
