James Robert Sherrill

Mr. James Robert Sherrill, 75, of Statesville, died Friday evening, December 19, 2014 at the Gordon Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. Born in Iredell County on April 12, 1939, he was a son of the late J.W. Sherrill and Vernie Bell Sherrill. He was a 1957 graduate of Statesville High School. On July 13, 1957, he married the former Jean Pope Sherrill who survives.

Mr. Sherrill was a life long member of Diamond Hill Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Church Training Director, Teacher and Usher. He was self employed with his brother, Jerry and they owned J & J Masonry. He enjoyed the Dallas Cowboys, hunting, fishing, camping with his wife, dove hunting and most of all visiting and loving his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons: Terry and Sue Sherrill of Statesville, Todd and Cindy Sherrill of Denver, N.C. and Stacy and Sherri Sherrill of New London, N.C., along with grandchildren: Shelby and Shannah Sherrill of Statesville, Hunter and Hannah Sherrill of New London, N.C., David and Kara Snoke of Cary, N.C. and Danny Snoke of Raleigh and great grandchildren: Krewson Snoke and Greyden Snoke of Cary and Beya Sherrill and Noah Sherrill of Statesville. Also surviving are a brother, Jerry and Judy Sherrill and a sister, Cynthia S. and Kenneth Kress all of Statesville along with a number of loving nieces and nephews and great nieces with special thanks to his loving niece Patti who loved and cared for him.

Services celebrating Mr. Sherrill’s life will be conducted at 3:00 PM Monday at Diamond Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Holleman, Rev. Stephen Pope and Rev. Jeff Luxon officiating. Pallbearers will be Billy Pope, Albert Yates, James Orbison, Danny Gregg, Hunter Sherrill and Atwell Brown. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 3:00 until 5:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given to Diamond Hill Baptist Church, Statesville; or to the Gordon Hospice House, C/O Hospice & Palliative Care Of Iredell County.
