Vernie Marie Bell Sherrill
Mrs. Vernie Marie Bell Sherrill, 83, of 113 Kingswood Drive, Statesville, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, August 17, 2004, at her residence. She had been in declining health for several years.
She was born Oct. 15, 1920, in Statesville and was the daughter of the late Fred Lester Bell and Sarah Launa Travis Bell. She was a graduate of Scotts High School, a retiree of Hunt Manufacturing and Jantzen, and a lifelong member of Diamond Hill Baptist Church.
Mrs. Sherrill was married to the late James W. Sherrill.
Survivors include sons, James R. Sherrill (Jeannie), and Jerry D. Sherrill (Judy); and a daughter, Cynthia S. Kress (Ken). Grandchildren are Terry and Sue Sherrill, Todd and Cindy Sherrill, Stacy and Sherri Sherrill, Jeff and Amy Sherrill, Teresa and Darrell Summers, Jody Sherrill, Tamara Sherrill, Kenny and Christy Kress, Benji Kress, and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters and two brothers, Freddie B. Lazenby (Bill), Shirley B. Campbell, Ruby B. Morrison (Albert), Betty B. Troutman, Bobby G. Bell (Dorothy), Tommy L. Bell (Donna); and a sister-in-law, Barbara S. Bell.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, George R. Bell and Glenn O. Bell.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Diamond Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Williams and the Rev. Stephen Pope officiating. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour. Entombment will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home and at other times, will assemble at the home of Ken and Cindy Kress, 113 Kingswood Drive.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are Nelson Farmer, Jerry Black, James Overcash, James Orbison, Bob Lindley, Larry York and Hubert Brown.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hospice of Iredell County; or to Diamond Hill Baptist Church, Statesville.
