Notes for Patsy McDowell
Patsy McDowell Sides

Patsy McDowell Sides, 87 of Salisbury NC, passed away Tuesday August 15th at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. She was born February 16,1936 in Cleveland Tennessee to the late Patrick Glenn and Bertie Grubb McDowell.

Patsy attended schools in Rowan County and graduated from Spencer High School. She met the love of her life (Glenn Sides) while in school as she played basketball and Glenn played football at Rockwell High School. This was just the beginning of their love story. Patsy and Glenn were married in 1952 starting a family and having four wonderful daughters. They truly had a blessed life together.

She worked and managed several retail establishments throughout her career and eventually retired from Quality Mart after many years of service.

Patsy had such a generous, giving soul. Her smile was contagious and she had a great sense of humor. Very seldom did you see her without her red lipstick on.

Anyone that ever came into the Sides household were always treated with love. She loved cooking and was a gracious hostess to everyone. She made sure you did not leave her house hungry! You were always welcomed back with loving arms. Her famous saying was “I’m glad you got to see me”.

In addition to her parents, Patsy was preceded in death by her husband Glenn Albert Sides; brothers , Patrick Jr, William, Jack and Bob; sisters Gail Cox and Carol Smith.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sister Blanche Vaden, Cleveland Tenn. daughters, Kathy Taylor, Karen Sanders (Presley), Robin Overcash all of Salisbury and Teresa Eller (Jack) of Woodleaf. Grandchildren, Summer Hatley, Mandy Barber, Nathan Richardson, Hayley Overcash, Hunter Overcash, Jonathan Eller and Tiffany Castleberry. 11 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, plus a great granddaughter due in November.

We would like to express our gratitude to everyone at Salisbury Rehabilitation Nursing Center. We appreciate your dedication and caring for Patsy’s daily needs. Patsy loved all of you, as we do. A special shout out to RN Yousaf Kahn and RN Kelly at Novant Rowan. It was by chance you two were brought into our lives to care for our Mother. You helped all of us throughout this process. We just can’t even imagine what we would have done without you. The compassion and comfort you gave us was overwhelming.

A service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd, with the Rev. Dr. Steve Holshouser officiating.

Lyerly Funeral Home is serving the Sides family.
