Born in Rowan County on February 18, 1921, he was the son of the late Nat Bartlette and Mary Ada Cauble Drury.

Harry was a veteran of the US Navy and owner/operator of Salisbury Oil Company for 35 years until his retirement.

Harry was a past commander and charter member of Livengood-Peeler-Wood American Legion Post #448 in Granite Quarry, and was currently a member of Miller-Russell American Legion Post #112 in Rockwell. He was an enthusiastic supporter of American Legion Baseball, serving on the Baseball Committee for many years. He faithfully attended most of the home games and threw out the first pitch at a game during the 2019 season where he was recognized for his service to the American Legion and the baseball program.

Harry was a longtime member of St. Luke’s Reformed Church where he served on the church council, Sunday School teacher, and was a member of the Men’s Fellowship and choir. He was honored by the church as Elder Emeritus.

In 2021, Harry reached the milestone of 100 years. He was recognized by the town of Granite Quarry and Salisbury Mayor Karen Alexander attended a reception in his honor proclaiming June 26 as “Harry Drury Day”. He was an avid golfer for many years, winning numerous trophies in local tournaments. He also enjoyed deep sea fishing in Florida. In his younger days, Harry was the pitcher for the St. Luke’s team in the old church fast pitch softball league.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Dorothy Holshouser Drury and brothers Ray, Ralph, Ed, Joe, and Quentin Drury.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Harriet Fisher of Salisbury; son, Terry Drury (Gail) of Salisbury; granddaughter, Lora Tesh (Barth) of Salisbury; grandson, Charlie Drury (Sharla) of Salisbury; great-grandson, Chase Smith (Kayce) of Salisbury.
