Dorothy “Dot” Holshouser Drury

Dorothy “Dot” Novella Holshouser Drury, 95, passed away Friday, April 21, 2017. She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Bessie Lyerly Holshouser. She graduated from Granite Quarry School in 1939. She was employed at Faith School for 12 years until her retirement.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by brother, Troy Holshouser and sister, Ina Holshouser Trexler. She is survived by husband, Harry Drury whom she married on October 31, 1942, daughter, Harriet Fisher of Salisbury, son , Terry Drury (Gail) of Salisbury, granddaughter, Lora Tesh (Barth) of Salisbury, grandson, Charlie Drury (Sharla) of Elizabeth City and great grandson, Chase Smith of Granite Quarry.

Mrs. Drury was a member of St. Luke’s Reformed Church and life member of the Women’s Fellowship. She served in many phases of church work including Church council, children’s Sunday School teacher, Women’s Fellowship and choir member. In 2008 she was awarded the Ingle Cook Meritorious Service Award for her years of dedicated service on the church worship committee and her other services to the church.

She was a member and past president of Livengood Peeler Wood American Legion Auxiliary # 448 in Granite Quarry.

Visitation and Service: Visitation will be held Monday April 24, 2017 from 12:30 pm – 1:45 pm at St. Luke’s Reformed Church. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm at the church with Rev. Jon Schell officiating. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Reformed Church.

Drury 70th Anniversary

Harry Shafer Drury and Dorothy Novella Holshouser Drury of Granite Quarry celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary Oct. 31, 2012. They were married Oct. 31, 1942, at Ursinus Evangelical and Reformed Church in Rockwell by the Rev. A.R. Tosh.

Harry retired as the owner/operator of Salisbury Oil Co. after 35 years. Dorothy retired as the cafeteria manager at Faith Elementary School.

The Drurys have two children, Harriet Fisher of Salisbury and Terry and wife Marie Drury of Granite Quarry. They also have two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Celebrations for the couple included a family dinner held Oct. 31 at The Outback Steakhouse and a luncheon hosted by St. Luke’s Reformed Church at Blue Bay Seafood Restaurant on Nov. 11.
