Jeffrey "Jeff" Howard Powlas

Jeff Powlas, age 70, unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at his home in Rockwell. He was born on August 29, 1953, in Rowan County, NC, to the late George and Mary Powlas.

As a lifelong member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Jeff was a Christian and knew Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He loved his work as a mechanical engineer, and dedicated 46 years of his life to the steelworks industry, currently serving as the Technical Service Head for NU-CORE Copper in Inkster, MI.

Beyond his professional life, Mr. Powlas had a range of hobbies, including collecting old sports cars, antiquing, outdoor activities, working with his tractor, studying history, genealogical research, and cherished time and trips with his family. Jeff's love for Europe was evident, and he recently fulfilled a dream trip to Scotland with his wife, Mita.

Jeffrey is survived by many of his loved ones. His wife of 47 years, Mita Shuping Powlas, along with three daughters – Ashley Young (Jeremy), Natalie Powlas (Anthony Tippins), Hailey Smith (Brandon), and a son, Garrett Powlas (Lisa). The couple adored their nine grandchildren – Christian Turner, Charlie Young, Cameron Young, Brett Tippins, Logan Tippins,  Paxton Tippins, Paisley Tippins, Mason Smith, and Theodore Powlas. Additionally, Jeff is survived by his brother and best friend, Alan Powlas (Terri).

Friends and relatives are invited to pay their respects on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by the service and graveside at 2:00 pm. Both, the visitation and service will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Salisbury, NC (205 St. Paul Church Rd) and officiated by Pastor Mark Ryman.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Capital Building Fund.
