Notes for Jimmy Ray Herrin
Jimmy Ray Herrin

Jimmy Ray Herrin, 85 of Locust, NC went to be at home with His Lord on Friday, October 20, 2023, surrounded by family at his bedside after a brief hospital stay. Jimmy was born November 7, 1937, to the late Claude Monroe Herrin and the late Bertha Louise Gheen. He was also preceded in death by sister, Margie Herrin Hatley; daughters, Sheila Herrin Eudy and Tammy Herrin Belk; and great-granddaughters, Alyssa Lee Honeycutt and Aaliyah Marie Parker.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel in Albemarle officiated by Pastor Gene Moore. Burial will immediately follow at the Stanly Gardens of Memory at 2001 East Main St., Albemarle.

Survivors include his wife, Marion Wagoner Herrin of the home; brother, Eugene James Herrin of Red Cross, NC; daughters, Kathy Leigh (Phil) of Mt. Pleasant, NC, Sherrie Wooden (Tom) of Zebulon, NC, Tonia Braswell (Archie) of Zebulon, NC, and Vickie Smith (Jared) of Oakboro, NC; grandchildren, Angela Brown (Matthew), Amanda Teigue (Tommie), Matthew Leigh (Angel), Stephanie Burton (Matthew), Jennifer Honeycutt (Jason), Blair Belk, Brittany Braswell (Steve), Justin Braswell (Anna), Sarah Hall (Donnie), and Lauren Smith (Austin); and 16 great-grandchildren. He was also excitedly anticipating the birth of his 17th great-grandchild in February, Dallas Kyle Hall.

Jimmy was a light to those who knew him and quick to make friends with everyone. Jimmy spent his early life working for mills in the area, the City of Albemarle, and owning his own janitorial business before moving to the coast and working for NC Department of Transportation, the Town of Holden Beach, and the Town of Shallotte. He moved back to the area and spent his latter years landscaping multiple neighbors’ yards for physical activity.

Jimmy was a faithful and doting husband, the best Daddy, and the most fun and loving PawPaw. After retirement, he enjoyed being called upon to help care for two of his beloved granddaughters, Sarah and Lauren. He was quick witted and always had a smile.  He was a gifted handyman providing help to neighbors, friends, and strangers at any time a need was identified. As referenced by his bible markings he was a faithful servant of His Lord Jesus Christ and a diligent student of the bible. Jimmy attended Oakboro United Methodist Church in Oakboro, NC.

The family would like to thank the staff of Atrium Health Stanly for their love, kindness, and gentle care shown to their loved one during his short stay there. Special thanks to nurses Jenn, Eden, and Konda.

Memorials may be made to Oakboro United Methodist Church, Building Fund, PO Box 515, Oakboro, NC.
