Mervin Edward Peterson

Mervin (Pete, Petero, Merv) Peterson, age 95, passed away at home June 29, 2011 in Faith, North Carolina with wife, Elsie Petrea Peterson and daughter Kristen Lash by his side.

Mervin was preceded in death by his first wife, Ida Charlotte Schaefer Peterson and his son, Richard Allen Peterson, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. He is survived by his wife, Elsie Peterson, step-daughter, Norma Bradshaw and family, Vickie Miller and family, step-son Joe Petrea and family as well as Mervin Peterson Jr. and family, daughter-in-law Mary Peterson and family, and daughter Kristen Lash and family.

Mervin was born at home on a farm in Ottawa, Illinois September 30, 1915 to Norwegian immigrants. He served in the Army in Germany from 1943-1948. He returned from the war, purchased a small grocery store and later managed large grocery chain stores. After 20 years in the grocery business he moved to Florida in 1969 and bought a motel and par three golf course. These he sold 10 years later and enjoyed retirement traveling in his motor home, living in a golfing community in Florida and later settling in Faith, North Carolina with his wife, Elsie.

His friendly face, positive attitude, good humor and generosity will be missed by family, friends, and perhaps most of all by his 19 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Friday, July 1, 2011 from 1-2 PM at the Family Life Center at Faith Lutheran Church.

A memorial service will follow at 2 PM at Faith Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Clarence Sifford, Interim Pastor.

Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, Improvement Fund; Richard A. Peterson Fellowship, Council on Library and Information Resources, Washington, DC; or American Cancer Society.
