Jerry B. Barringer

Mr. Jerry Boger Barringer, 82, of Salisbury, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at the N.C. State Veteran's Home in Salisbury. He was born October 2, 1931, in Rowan County, NC, to the late Calvin Ray and Mae Boger Barringer.

Jerry was a graduate of Boyden High School in Salisbury and honorably served in the U.S. Navy, during the Korean War, serving aboard the U.S. Warship 699, from 1951 to 1954.

Prior to his retirement, he was a garage supervisor for Duke Energy in Winston-Salem and was a member of Zion United Methodist Church. Jerry enjoyed working outdoors, gardening, sharing his homegrown vegetables, planting trees, and caring for his dog, "Lobo."

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, to whom he was happily married for 61 years prior to her death on August 6, 2013, Mrs. Doris Arey Barringer; his brother, Calvin Barringer, and his twin-brother, Terry Barringer.

Jerry is survived by his sister, Mrs. Sarah Sowers of Virginia and numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.

There will be a graveside service on Saturday, August 9, at 2:00 PM at Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery in Gold Hill, conducted by Rev. Charlie Curtis, pastor. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of the N.C. State Veteran's Home, who took care of Jerry during his illness. What a wonderful and caring group of people.
