ROCKWELL - Alvin Leroy Goodman, 92, of Rockwell, passed away on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Alvin was born Dec. 10, 1920, in Rowan County, a son of the late Lewis and Mamie Barger Goodman. A 1938 graduate of Rockwell High School, he was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a retired farmer.

Alvin was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church and the Blessed Assurance Sunday School Class. He was an assistant teacher for the Veterans Farm Program and a member of the Harold B. Jarrett American Legion Post. Alvin enjoyed tracking rabbits and watching the Atlanta Braves.

In addition to his parents, Alvin is preceded in death by his brother, Howard Goodman.

Alvin is survived by his wife of over 69 years, Frances Linker Goodman, who he married June 19, 1943; sister Ruth G. Shaver of Richfield. He loved his nieces and nephews as if they were his children.

Services: The Funeral will be held Sunday, Dec. 23 at St. Peters Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. James Fore, interim pastor, and Rev. Eddie Pless, retired pastor. Mr. Goodman will lie in state of 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation: The family will receive friends Saturday, Dec. 22 at Powles Funeral Home from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and at the home the remainder of the time.

Memorials: May be made to St. Peters Lutheran Church.
